Experiencing the language through Literature
(Improving reading and writing skill)
There was a theory state that children learn writing from reading and they learn reading from writing. The children do writing to learn the way how to read, and they do reading to learn the way how to write. Previously reading and writing were considered as the solitary activity, as a result the student could not involve with their activity, they write beyond their motivation. But nowadays reading and writing skill can be developed through sharing and discussing information. The theory shows strong relationship between reading and writing, combining instruction reading and writing in the classroom can improve student’ literacy learning. Literature is appropriate media to enhance student writing and reading skill, literature provide student the context to learn the language. Learning language would be more effective when the instructor able to create a context, the student will experience the language in doing of writing and reading.
In this context, students are given an opportunity to make language by their own way, by connecting their life and the information they earn from literature. The effective program of learning writing and reading can be design by providing the learners opportunities for daily reading and writing, for example by introducing them some literature such novel, short story, play, etc. by doing such activities they can accommodate the information they earn and can be an idea for the students to begin writing. They can share the information they earn with other through their writing. Herein students make a connection between reading and writing.
