TOLERATING AND APPRECIATING DIVERSE VALUES

Currently many of our school, racial and ethnic prejudice are an integral part of the social fabric. Instead of being places that provide safe and supportive environment. Schools have become the sites where the children are exposed to racial hostility and intolerance. They must to learn to cope with incidents that include name calling, being pushed or spat on, deliberately tricked, teased laughed at, or being subjected to unprovoked physical harassment and victimization, all of which contribute to feeling of rejection, isolation and fear.

The traditional literature program offered to secondary student does to help break down negative stereotype. To the extent that traditional gogy follow from a new critical approach to text, student have little even in confronting their own values as explored in the literature they to be comfortable in an increasingly culturally diverse society. Student the traditional, prevailing culture needs to examine their own heritage related values. They also need to better understand their own culture and broaden their perspective by exploring cultures and the ways in which adolescent experience is alike and different from the adolescent experience reflected in literature about young adults from diverse background
